Best Neighborhoods and Coliving in Barcelona

la rambla barcelona

It’s easy to understand why Barcelona has become a digital nomad hub – it’s a beautiful city with great vibes, a ton to do, and it’s on the beach. What more could you want? With its growing popularity, prices have risen – so be sure to book things well in advance, especially during the high season (September), and go with a reputable company. Keep in mind that many apartments might not have air conditioning, and you might want it – especially during the hottest months (July and August).

Neighborhoods

Every neighborhood in Barcelona has a different feel – from medieval to artsy to beach towns. But don’t worry, Barcelona is very walkable and has great public transportation, so it’s easy to get around no matter where you stay. A good way to familiarize yourself with the city is via walking tours or bike tours, but whenever you need to get out of town – take a look at our day trips.

It’s important to note that some neighborhoods such as El Raval, Born, and Gotico can get overrun with tourists so it may be better to hang out there rather than stay there. Note also that El Raval has developed a reputation for being a less safe neighborhood.

Some great places to consider staying as a digital nomad include:

  • Dreta de l’Eixample – Smack in the city center you’ll be close to everything in this upscale and bustling area.
  • L’Esquerra de l’Eixample – Still very close to the city center, but less crowded. “Gaixample” is at the center of LGBTQIA+ life, with lots of inclusive and gay-friendly bars, shops, and restaurants.
  • Gràcia – Beloved by locals, Gràcia is one of the few neighborhoods that has maintained some authenticity. It’s hip and artsy filled with many plazas to relax in for a drink, shopping, and restaurants.
  • Poblenou – Right on the beach, this neighborhood has a totally different vibe. There are newer buildings and a more spacious feeling about it – very different from the narrow medieval streets you’ll find in most central neighborhoods. Stay here if you plan to go to the beach every day!

Coliving

With the boom of digital nomadism in Barcelona, tons of colives and coworks have sprung up. Because there are so many nomads here, Barcelona has a lot of variety and innovative models when it comes to these spaces. We have taken the initiative to highlight some of the most popular colives amongst nomads.

In a good colive, you can live and work with other like-minded digital nomads who want to be productive, co-create a community, and explore the city together. Colives typically have great internet, desks, working spaces, and people with similar values. Most colives have an application process to vet members to ensure you’ll be fit for the community.
