Coming to a city you never been to before, you might have a difficulty to figure out how to orient yourself. Rome is difficult to navigate. Streets do not run parallel, their names change without warning, and there is definitely no grid! Just one look at a map will tell you: this is not an intuitive place to get around. Regardless of how well-traveled you are, trying to get from one place to another in Rome might be more complicated than you think. Walking straight might leave you turning even if that was never your intention. While walking next to the river does not seem to be that winding but looking at a map you see that the Tiber winds like a snake through the city.
Taxi stands in Rome
Another thing you want to easily find when being in a foreign city are taxi stands. Rome has a few. A few tips:
- always take a white legal taxi
- most taxis take credit cards but be sure to ask in advance
- Don’t ever accept a taxi driver that has approached or has asked you to ask if you need a taxi. This is most common at airports, bus stations, and train stations. A legit taxi does not need to seek out clients!
