The Abbey of Montserrat

One of the best-known attractions in Montserrat is the monastery high on the mountain, known for its breathtaking panoramic views. This is a must-see landmark if you are in the area! Just outside of the monastery is a great statue, known as the Black Madonna, Our Lady of Montserrat, which draws tourists here. You can also see Europe’s oldest boys choir and Benedictine Monks singing publicly on the mountain top, adding to the overall experience. Combine these with the breathtaking views of the countryside and you will be blown away!

Mountain Trails

Hiking is also a great way to spend your time in Montserrat. If you are a well-conditioned hiker, there are trails that you can take from the base of the mountain; at the top you’ll find your reward in the breathtaking views of the Catalan countryside. For those who are inexperienced but still want to enjoy the views, there is a funicular. This runs from the base of the mountain to the summit in just seven minutes and costs €11.50 for a return ticket. There are several trails branching off from the summit station that you can explore on foot.

If you are someone who enjoys wine tasting, then you should visit the Penedès countryside near Monserrat. Here you’ll find extensive vineyards and opportunities to taste the wine produced here. Pair the wine with a side of tapas and experience true Spanish culture!
