Your top-rated LivTours private guide will meet you outside the Colosseum, and with priority tickets will escort you past long, confusing lines and big tour groups straight through security and to the newly opened panoramic glass elevator! With your expert guide, you will ascend the many stories and multiple tiers that surround the arena floor. Then, at the top of a final set of staircases, you will reach the very pinnacle of the Colosseum. Closed for renovations for the past 4 years this is truly a special experience, enabling you to view the incredible interior of the Colosseum in its entirety with unparalleled aerial vistas of the surrounding Roman landscape – including the Palatine Hill where the Emperors reigned supreme, and the Roman Forum, central hub of the Ancient World, filled with the majestic ruins of pagan temples, basilicas, and the Senate.
You will then enjoy tours of each of the Colosseum’s tiers and learn about the different types of people that were seated on each level, and the clever ticketing system the Romans invented to enable the swift, efficient and organized seating and exit of up to 80,000 spectators. Up on the levels furthest from the arena you would find the ‘lowest’ class of citizens – peasants and women. The closer to the arena floor you sat, the higher up the social ladder you were – blue-collar workers or plebeians, educated citizens, lawyers, educators, orators, then the aristocracy, senators, generals and finally the Emperor, his family and inner circle would be right up at the front in the Imperial Box.

- The Colosseum can accommodate a maximum of 3000 people at once. This could lead to delays in access to the site, even for pre-booked visitors. Please be on time!
- In cases of heavy wind or rain, for safety reasons the Colosseum management may close all access to the top levels of the site. In such cases, your tour guide will provide a comprehensive tour of the public areas to ensure you still get the most from your visit.
- ALL participants are required to bring a valid form of ID (i.e. passport, driver’s license, government ID) in order to enter the Colosseum. Please bring an original document – copies or photos are not accepted.
