Your private Pompeii and Herculaneum Tour will begin with a warm welcome from your LivTours expert private guide. You will enjoy priority access to the excavations of Pompeii, not wasting a moment of your valuable vacation time. Stroll through the fascinating archaeological site while learning about the advanced engineering that was used, which was well before its time. Your private guide will take you on a journey through back in time showing you ancient road mapping, residential and utilities planning. Being a valuable port trading town, your private expert guide will also take you around the “shops” which lined the main street in an effort to catch the attention of traveling tradesmen. This fascinating walk through these excavations in the company of an expert really brings this 163 acre site to life!
In Pompeii you will visit the Forum, the heart of the city where religious, economic and commercial life took place. You will see the ancient basilica of town (not a religious building), which is a preserved architectural prototype of the Christian basilica seen throughout Europe. Walking through the residential neighborhoods, you can hear tales of how the residents of Pompeii lived…and loved! Experience a thorough journey through the most amazing ancient ruins with an expert LivTours private guide.
HERCULANEUM, PRESERVED BY THE HAND THAT RUINED IT
Five miles south of Naples lies an ancient town whose richness and history is on par with that of Pompeii, the town is Herculaneum. Your guide will accompany this site to begin the second half of your exploration.
Herculaneum is known as the better preserved cousin of Pompeii as the volcanic ash that covered it, also helped preserve the framework of the homes and buildings, but also the more fragile materials such as wood and other natural materials. Like a historian’s dream come true, you get to see the very beds and even food remnants left behind from that terrible day. Taking a walk through Herculaneum is immersing yourself in history. Some of the attractions you will see in Herculaneum include the House of Galba, the Thermal Baths and wonderful mosaic floors, the Samnite House and plenty more.
These two spectacular towns are still active excavation sites and international archaeologists are literally digging deeper into the story of that infamous day. This is the perfect tour for those who want to immerse themselves in ancient Roman life!
ADD ON: WINE TASTING & LUNCH AT A LOCAL VINEYARD
If you would like to make your half day tour a full day tour, then why not add on a visit and lunch at a local family run winery set in the hills of Mount Vesuvius. Your private guide will leave you with your chauffeur who will take you to the nearby vineyard. This traditional winery is now run by the third generation who are young entrepreneurs who took their nonno’s (grandfather’s) hobby and made it into a viable reality. Your winery guide will meet you upon your arrival and will take you on a private tour through the vineyard and the cellar while explaining the bio-dynamic techniques they used in production, as well as some of the ancient techniques they are implementing in their production.
Of course, no vineyard tour would be complete without a wine tasting. Enjoy the views while you savor three wines followed by a delicious light meal which includes a starter, first course and a dessert. You are sure to enjoy the stories, landscape and of course wine of this vineyard that has been in the family for three generations.

Pompeii and Herculaneum
"We searched the internet for a private tour of Pompeii and found LivItaly offered not just Pompeii but also Herculaneum. We knew of Pompeii and the tragedy that killed off the city but kept it so well preserved all these years. Learning about Herculaneum and seeing the fabulous ruins (that, we thought, were even better preserved) really made for a memorable experience. Giorgio, our private guide, was funny and entertaining and oh so very well-versed on the subject. He welcomed all of our questions and patiently answered all. We went home totally satisfied with this tour and this tour company."

Enchanted with both of these ancient cities
"The ruins of both ancient cities, Pompeii and Herculaneum, are awesome!! Pompeii is, of course, much more well known and popular and is a definite must-see. But Herculaneum is much smaller and so, in a way, much easier to navigate. In any event, we enjoyed our private tour of both these sites. Our tour guide, Mario, was a local archaeologist and art historian so we had the best of the best. The entire day was fantastic!"
