Embark on an exciting journey through Rome’s culinary traditions, starting with a private guided visit alongside your chef to the famous Mercato Trionfale, near the Vatican.
With around 270 stalls, it is one of the largest covered food markets in Europe. With a vibrant atmosphere, the market is renowned for its high-quality, fresh produce from local farms and regional specialities. This is also where Romans do their daily shopping, offering you “an off the tourist track” glimpse of authentic Roman life.
With your personal chef leading the way, you’ll explore bustling stalls brimming with fresh fruit and vegetables, meats and cheeses, baked goods, and street food. Meet friendly vendors as you select fresh seasonal produce—like sun-ripened tomatoes and fragrant basil in summer, and farm-fresh potatoes in cooler months. Here, you’ll also discover which seasonal vegetable will be added as a delicious side dish to accompany your handmade gnocchi.
After the market, continue your experience at LivTours’ private, state-of-the-art cooking school a short walk away. In a luxury kitchen, you’ll work at your personal workstation, don your apron, and start crafting classic Italian gnocchi from scratch. Gnocchi is made from potatoes and flour and served as a first course, like pasta. The potato dumplings are usually served with a sauce like butter and sage, or tomato and basil. Traditionally in Rome, gnocchi is eaten on Thursday, followed by fish on Fridays and tripe on Saturdays!
Your chef will guide you through every step, from preparing the dough to shaping the perfect gnocchi and preparing the perfect seasonal sauce. Lastly, enjoy your handmade meal paired with local wine, followed by a sweet finish of cantucci cookies dipped in delicious sweet dessert wine, vin santo. Plus, you’ll receive a digital recipe booklet to recreate your Roman feast back home!
