Fantastic guide who made the Vatican come alive
We had a wonderful experience on this tour, and our guide, Max, was a big reason why. He was incredibly knowledgeable, funny, and kept the 3.5-hour tour engaging from start to finish. The Vatican Museums are massive, hot, and incredibly crowded, but Max did an excellent job navigating us through the crowds while making sure no one got left behind. We joked several times that we were going to get in trouble if we stopped too long to take photos because he kept us moving at a good pace, which was honestly necessary given how busy it was. One thing I especially appreciated was how he tried to personalize the experience. Another couple on our tour had visited another part of Italy before coming to Vatican City, and when we came across a map inside one of the museums, Max pointed out where they had been. It was a small gesture, but it showed that he genuinely wanted to connect with everyone in the group. He was also happy to take photos for us throughout the tour and even showed us a fun trick for using the vertical panorama feature on our phones to capture the incredible height of St. Peter’s Basilica. It was something we had never seen before and made for some really unique photos. The tour was extensive without feeling overwhelming. I know LivTours offers longer Vatican tours, but with the heat and crowds, I thought 3.5 hours was the perfect amount of time. We left feeling like we had seen the highlights, learned a great deal, and still had enough energy to enjoy the rest of our day. If you’re looking for a knowledgeable, entertaining guide who can expertly navigate the Vatican crowds while making the experience enjoyable, I would absolutely recommend this tour.
- Christy OwensExploring Vatican City
This is 100% a must-do in Rome! Our guide Roberta was top-notch! —so passionate, deeply knowledgeable, and she made centuries of history come alive for my family, especially my husband and 13yr old son. Navigating the museums on our own would have been completely overwhelming, but this tour kept the perfect pace. Seeing the Sistine Chapel and the breathtaking St. Peter's Basilica with an expert to explain the tiny details made it so much more meaningful. 10/10 experience! I cannot recommend Roberta more!
- Kelly BilodeauRoberta was EXCELLENT!!
Roberta was the best tour guide for our Vatican Tour. She was kind, knowledgeable, and moved at our pace. Would highly recommend!!
- Marc HausmannStill Very Crowded
My three star rating has nothing to do with the guide; she was very knowledgeable and offered a lot of interesting information. I feel like the way this tour is explained in the description, as First Entry, Early Morning, Semi-Private, is misleading; while I understood I wasn't going to be in the Vatican alone with 6 people, requiring people to arrive prior to 7:30 gives the impression that the doors would be open for groups booking these small group tours to enter the Vatican at 7:30 prior to when the doors open at 8:00 am for everyone. Some of the descriptors even mention getting into the Sistine Chapel and other rooms before the crowds. This was not the case at all. The tour began at 7:30 because we walked across the street with our group to get in line for when the doors opened at 8:00 am. Unfortunately, I had two panic attacks during the tour due to the crowds, feeling trapped with no way out, and at one point even became separated from my group in the Sistine Chapel because I just could not stay in there due to the sheer number of people and ended up going the wrong way. While I understand that will not happen to everyone, my claustrophobia and anxiety with crowds is a "me" problem, if you are thinking that paying a bit extra for this first entry tour will ensure you avoid some of the crowds while visiting the Vatican, that is not a guarantee.
- KellyExcellent tour of the Vatican & Sistine Chapel
Our guide Assunta was very welcoming and knowledgeable about the history and importance of the Vatican and Sistine Chapel. Having her as our guide allowed us to ask questions throughout as well as avoid a major entry line in the morning that would have cost us hours. A must!
- Mary HadenA great tour with a great guide
We booked this tour as a bucket list item. We were totally in awe throughout the entire tour. It was amazing. Entering early is the way to go. The crowds are less, and you are able to see everything up close. Our tour guide, Massimo, was incredible. He was very knowledgeable, funny, and had a delightfully charming personality. He made a point of knowing everyone's name and something about them. Thanks to him, this tour was an incredible experience! We can't recommend this tour with Massimo enough!
- Carol FigusExceptional experience!
We had an amazing tour with LivTours and our guide Massimo! Communication and arrangements were highly professional. We ended up with a very small group of 4 people after 2 no shows. Massimo ensured our tour was exceptional with his excellent knowledge, enthusiasm and humour. This tour is a Must Do if you are visiting Rome!
- Sam & JeremyGreat tour with a great tour guide!
We are so glad we booked this tour because we feel like we learned so much more than we would have if we just went on our own. Gabriella was very kind and knowledgeable! We went on a very busy day following Easter and Gabriella went above and beyond to ensure we could see everything amidst the crowded areas. We all agreed afterwards that it's definitely worth it to do the first entry tickets !
- Jenna MNever gets old!
This tour of the Vatican, Sistine Chapel and St Peter’s was probably one of the best we’ve done. Every time we’ve been here there is something new to learn about or see and our guide, Gaia, did not disappoint.
- Michael RuggieroPerfect Vatican Tour
This is a perfect Vatican tour that manages to avoid long lines and waits due to the early am time. We were able to see the Sistine Chapel, St Peters, and the other areas of the Vatican Museum easily. Costanza our tour guide was very informative and enjoyable as our guide, she has tons of knowledge on the Vatican that is interesting. This was a small tour too which was nice so we did not struggle to listen with a huge crowd etc. Highly recommend!
