The Real Star of the Italian Renaissance
Carrara marble might be the unsung hero of the art world. Our guide Giulia showed us how this one mountain changed the course of Western art. I left with a much deeper appreciation for sculpture and craftsmanship.
- Aisha JohnsonA Raw and Authentic Experience
There’s nothing polished or fake about this tour—and that’s the best part. It’s dusty, rugged, and real. You walk away with a deeper appreciation for the raw material that built empires.
- SamuelOff the Beaten Path and Worth It
This tour gave us a rare glimpse into a world most tourists miss. Seeing the giant blocks being cut from the mountain was mesmerizing. Our guide, Marco, made history feel immediate and alive.
- Eleanor BArt, Industry, and Nature in One Tour
LivTours delivered an unforgettable experience. The juxtaposition of the white marble cliffs with the deep green Tuscan hills was unlike anything I’ve seen before. Our guide, Elena, answered every question and added so much context to the beauty around us.
- Julian MitchellA Perfect Day Outside Florence
We were staying in Florence and wanted a day away from the city—and this was perfect. Gorgeous mountain views, a bit of adrenaline, and rich historical insight. Seeing live quarrying in action was more intense than I expected.
- OliverA Sculptor’s Dream
As an amateur sculptor, this tour was on my bucket list—and it didn’t disappoint. To stand where the Pantheon’s marble came from gave me chills. The quarry was both beautiful and intense, and I appreciated how LivTours kept it small and personal.
- Miguel FRugged, Real, and Remarkable
If you're looking for something off the beaten path, this is it. The bumpy ride up the quarry roads was surprisingly fun, and the stories about local families who still control the marble trade were fascinating. Big thanks to Chiara for an unforgettable day.
- Darren EUnexpectedly Moving
I booked this tour on a whim, not realizing how emotional it would be to see where the materials for some of the world’s greatest art came from. Walking into the heart of the mountain was like walking into history. Highly recommend for art lovers.
- Deborah ChanLiving History in the Mountains
I felt like I stepped into a Dan Brown novel—hidden caves, ancient tools, and breathtaking panoramas. Seeing an active quarry at work gave me so much respect for the artisans who work here.
- Jonathan MullerJust fascinating
The Carrara Marble Quarry, where Michaelangelo (and many others) went to get the marble slabs that then became the scupture masterpieces that we know, is a fascinating place. The chance to visit the Quarry, see how they cut the marble from the sides of the mountains and then transport these gigantic stones is extremely interesting and for both my husband and myself, an experience we won't soon forget. Thank you LivItaly for offering such a creative and fascinating tour!
